Solid waste management is of great concern for compliance with the Law on Environmental Protection, efficient use of resources, contributing for sustainable development. Accordingly, solid waste should be classified and minimized at the source before being transferred to another unit for treatment. At Quy Nhon University (QNU), solid waste has not been classified and treated. All solid waste generated at QNU is transferred to functional units for treatment, resulting in waste of resources and environmental pollution. In this study, 105 solid waste samples were collected at QNU to classify and determine the composition and volume of solid waste. The results showed that the average volume of solid waste generated at QNU was 2,144 kg/day. The composition of solid waste at QNU was very diverse, including more than 13 components in 4 main types: Biosolids (81.83%); Inorganic solids that can be recycled and reused (16.22%); Inorganic solids that cannot be recycled or reused (1.49%) and hazardous solid waste (0.46%). Therefore, improving solid waste management and reducing the amount of waste at the source are useful and necessary at QNU.
