03. ArcGIS application for evaluating impacts of the road on the ecosystem

Abstract

The construction and connecting of new roads is indispensable for quick and sustainable development of a country. However, the transport system development should line in the context of sustainable development considering the environmental, economic and social impacts. The road crossing an ecosystem area may extremely impact its habitat. Assessing impacts of the road on the ecosystem has been receiving increasing attention of scientists and managers. This paper presents a new quantitative method to evaluate impacts of the road on the ecosystem. This may support managers and designers to quantify the impact level and then select an appropriate route plan, reducing impacts of the road on its surrounding ecosystem.
