08. Integration of Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2A images to estimate land surface temperature in Hanoi

Abstract

Nowadays, the estimation of land surface temperature (LST) from remote sensing images for environment and climate studies has become a trend in the world. Nervetheless, the resolution of available satellite images is mostly quite low. Large-scale studies in urban areas usually require higher spatial resolution of LST data. Therefore, improving resolution of LST is very necessary. This study, first, use a band 10 of Landsat 8 image to calculate the brightness temperature and a band 4 and a band 8 of Sentinel-2A image to compute surface emissivity; then, generate an LST map with higher spatial resolution. The statistic results indicate that the parammeters including mean, median, mode, std.Dev of LST that are retrived from Sentinel-2A images and incorporated into Landsat 8 iamges are similar to those parameters retrieved by using Landsat 8 images alone.
