01. Effect of surface roughness to soil moisture measurement using microwave radiometers band L in Vietnam
Abstract
This research focused on evaluating the effect of surface roughness on soil moisture measurement using microwave band L radiometers by Space Technology Institute, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Soil moisture measurement using microwave radiometers band L (1.4 GHz) was conducted in 2019. The effect of surface roughness on soil emission temperature has been studied through the correction of Fresnel reflection coefficient on rough soils. The calculation results from microwave radiometers show the dependence of the emission temperature on soil moisture with different soil roughness level. This study provides empirical data to calculate soil moisture for agricultural land in Vietnam, contributing to the development of a model to study the effect of roughness on soil moisture measurement using microwave radiometers.
