14. The current status of clean water use and supply and solutions to improve water supply efficiency for local people in Khanh An commune, U Minh district, Ca Mau province

Abstract

This paper summarizes the results of research on the current situation of clean water use of people in Khanh An commune, U Minh district, Ca Mau province which was severely affected by Elnino. Various data collection methods were used in this study including household questionnaires selected by two-stage stratified random sampling technique, interviews with focus groups and field observation. The results show that water supply to the people in Khanh An commune has not been well implemented. There is still shortage of water during the dry season. The quality of supplied water does not meet the National standard for pH value (QCVN 02: 2009/BYT). Pretreatment and post-treatment water quality has not been regularly monitored. The study also proposed the implementation of clean water supply plan consisting of three steps based on the early warning information system. This will enhance the water supply process when a drought occurs.
