04. Research on land potential to develop main products - A case of early-ripe lychee in Dong Trieu commune, Quang Ninh province

Abstract

For many years, Dong Trieu town has been well known by many domestic and foreign people with the trademark of Dong Trieu lychee. Recently, in Dong Trieu area, there is also a high quality product which is the early ripening lychee of Binh Khe. This research collected primary and secondary data. The collected data were then processed to evaluate the efficiency of agricultural land use. Currently, about 74.1 ha of early-ripe lychee planting has shown the economic effectiveness of this product. However, in order to have scientific basis to identify land potential for lychee production development, a survey was conducted within 8 communes (Trang An, Binh Khe, Trang Luong, Binh Duong, Thuy An, Yen Tho, Yen Duc, Hong Thai Tay) which are producing early-ripe lychee. From the data of 6 factors including soil type, topography, mechanical composition, soil layer thickness, irrigation regime and pepper regime; together with the growth requirements of early-ripe lychee, the research identified 45 suitable land units and class at 3 levels S1 (46.96 ha), S2 (615.74 ha), S3 (392.42 ha) across Dong Trieu town. It is also suggested that the area of ​​planting early-ripe lychee should reach 424.4 ha by 2030.
