01. Soil salinity mapping in Ben Tre using Sentinel - 2 satellite images

Abstract

This study aims to map soil salinity in Ben Tre using spatiotemporal high-resolution optical satellite images (Sentinel - 2). The cloud computing platform Google Earth Engine (GEE) has been used for preprocessing and calculation of proposed remote sensing indicators. The result showed that vegetation indicators were highly correlated with on-site electrical conductivity (EC) measurement. The best correlation coefficient by EVI (R= 0.8) was used for empirical modeling. Image series of soil salinity were made monthly during dry and rained season in 2018. Agricultural land statistics showes that the effect of soil salinity varies with seasons as well as different livelihood models. This research concluded that remote sensing technology combining with high-performance big data processing is an effectively indirect method for monitoring soil salinity.
