Abstract
Being a transitional area between land and sea, coastal areas of Hai Hau - Nghia Hung, Nam Dinh are strongly influenced by many factors such as geology, topography, climate, hydrology, soils, vegetation and especially, human activities. As part of the buffer zone and transition zone of the Red River Delta Biosphere Reserve as well as the dynamic economic - social development region of Nam Dinh province, Hai Hau has been facing complex conflicts in natural resources exploitation and environmental protection. Geographical approach was used to identify and evaluate the values of natural systems Hai Hau - Nghĩa Hưng in marine functional spatial planning. This has high scientific and practical significance towards sustainable development of Hai Hau.
